I love hot air balloons. They are such amazing forms of transportation.
Elegant. Beautiful. Quiet. Bright and cheery against a bright blue sky.
There is nothing like looking up and seeing on the horizon a flight of hot air balloons take off.
You must count to see how many there are of course, it’s part of the game. 🙂
Walking the dogs on Friday-Sunday and Wednesday mornings I look to see how many are flying that day and check to see if my favorite “ole blue” (as I like to call it) is flying.
The sound of the burners as they fly overhead is distinct. It gradually gets louder when they descend and prepare to land.
Watching them float up, down, and over the horizon is something that is entrancing. If you meet others during your walk it is not uncommon to stop and talk about it, both of you wearing big smiles, enjoying the moment.
Wondering where they will land is also part of the game. So you watch for the chase vans, looking for a clue as to which way they will go.
Then one day, magic happens. You are given a gift of the unexpected.
The Gift of a Moment
This summer I had the unexpected pleasure of watching a flight of about 5-6 hot air balloons float in for a landing.
It was my gift of a moment and the gift of a big ole’ grin on my face. It was also a gift for Bailey as he trailed around behind me sniffing and smelling contentedly as explored the area.
It is so easy to get caught up in the craziness of the day, the tyranny of the urgent, and the demands of the to-do list. It’s easy to get lost in busy and forget about living with purpose.
So when these unexpected gifts come, we need to give ourselves permission to just enjoy the moment. Enjoy the experience and share the excitement.
Don’t let the gifts of special moments like these pass you by.

We don’t see them often here, but it is always a thrill. I’m so happy you shared you received and shared this gift. Thank you!
Thanks Elaine!!
