Testing Your Business Ideas: Let’s Make 2025 More Fun!
You know what I’ve been thinking about lately? How we can take some of the pressure off ourselves as business owners.
Last week on the podcast, I shared some mindset lessons I’ve learned, and this week I want to talk about something that’s really close to my heart: treating our business ideas more like experiments.
Let me share a story with you. Back before my current business, I had a soap and lotion-making company that I absolutely loved. What made it special wasn’t just the products – it was how I approached creating them.

I’d start with someone else’s recipe, get comfortable with it, then start playing around. A little tweak here, a new ingredient there. Eventually, I got so good at it that I could create my own recipes from scratch!
That experimental spirit brought me so much joy, and I realized recently that I’ve lost some of that in my current business. Sometimes I catch myself throwing ideas out there without really testing them, hoping something will stick. Sound familiar?
Here’s what I’ve learned: when we rush to launch something without proper planning or testing, we often set ourselves up for disappointment. I see this with the women in my mastermind group and my one-on-one coaching clients all the time. We have an idea, we throw it out there last minute, and when it doesn’t meet our (usually unrealistic) expectations, we get discouraged and start over from scratch.
But what if we tried something different?
What if instead of expecting overnight success, we treated each business move as an experiment?
This could mean:
- Testing different email subject lines to see what gets people’s attention.
- Trying out various social media platforms to find where our audience really hangs out.
- Getting feedback on a new offer before launching it.
- Making small improvements based on what we learn.
I’ve decided that in 2025, I’m getting back to that experimental mindset I had in my soap-making days. Less pressure, more exploration. Less desperation, more curiosity.
And here’s something important I want you to remember: those “overnight success” stories you see online? You never know how many attempts it took to get there. You don’t see the failed experiments, the tweaks, the adjustments, or the years of work behind that “instant” success.
Want to join me in this experimental approach?
Here’s what I suggest:
- Pick something small to test – don’t feel like you have to revolutionize your whole business at once
- Look at it as a learning opportunity rather than a make-or-break moment
- Pay attention to what works and what doesn’t
- Ask for feedback from your audience
- Make adjustments based on what you learn
- Try again with improvements
The beauty of this approach is that it takes so much pressure off. When something doesn’t work exactly as planned, it’s not a failure – it’s just data for your next experiment!
I’d love to hear from you. Have you ever run a business experiment? What did you learn? Or are you more like I used to be, starting over from scratch each time something didn’t work perfectly? Let me know in the comments below or reach out to me on social media.
