Have you ever used journaling for business decisions?
This is not a “Dear Diary” type of journaling exercise. not talking about writing “Dear Diary” stuff. This is different. It’s about using writing to help you make better choices for your business.
And even better, no fancy equipment, tools, or resources available. All you need is paper and a pen or pencil.

Sometimes, we know we need to make a choice. But fear gets in the way. We worry about making mistakes or what others might think. That’s where journaling comes in handy.
I’ve found four ways to use journaling when I need to make a tough call. Let me share them with you:
- Brain Dump: Use this style of journaling when you need to focus and clear you head.
- What If? Here, you let your imagination run wild. Don’t let fear stop you from dreaming big about your idea or decision.
- Mind Mapping: This is great for big ideas. It’s a tool that can help you explore possibilities and organize the steps involved.
- Future You? What do you think a future version of you will think about the decision you make? (one of my favs)
Journaling type #4 above is a method I used about a year ago to help me evaluate my options and make a big decision. It was a decision that could potentially impact many areas of my life and my business. Writing as if I’d already made the choice helped me see things more clearly.
These methods aren’t just for big choices. You can use them for small ones too. In fact, that’s a great way to practice.
I challenge you to try one of these this week. Pick a small choice you need to make. Use one of these journaling methods to help you decide.
Remember…
Journaling isn’t about writing perfect sentences. It’s about helping you think things through. It’s a tool to help you make smarter choices for your business.
So grab a pen and paper (or open a new doc on your computer) and give it a try. You might be surprised at what you learn about yourself and your business.
