Feeling stressed about your business? You’re not alone.
Entrepreneurship could be considered one of the most intense personal development programs out there. I know it has stretched and grown me in ways I never anticipated.
And with it comes seasons of stress and anxiety. But over the years, there’s been a simple tool that I’ve added to my toolkit that has helped, and that’s journaling.

No fancy equipment, tools, or resources available. All you need is paper and a pen or pencil.
Here are a just a few of the ways journaling can help you deal with stress and anxiety in your business:
- It slows you down. When you write, you have to stop and think. Sometimes, we’re so busy running around that we don’t even know why we’re stressed. Writing it down can make things clearer.
- It makes you more self-aware. Sometimes we don’t know what we think until we write it down. It’s like having a conversation with yourself on paper. You might be surprised at what comes out!
- It lets you be grateful. Writing down things you’re thankful for about your business can really lift your mood. Even on the worst days, there’s usually something good to focus on.
- It helps you grow. When you journal regularly, you can look back and see how far you’ve come and can help you make better decisions in the future.
- It’s a safe place to vent. We all need to let off steam sometimes. Journaling gives you a private space to do that without worrying about what others think.
Are you thinking, “I don’t have time for this?” Well here’s the thing: you don’t need to write a novel. Even just a few minutes a day can make a big difference. And you don’t need anything fancy to start journaling.
Here are some tips to make journaling work for you:
- Pick a time that works for you. Maybe it’s first thing in the morning, or right before bed.
- Keep it simple. Don’t worry about perfect grammar or spelling.
- Be honest. Remember, no one else has to see this.
- Try different styles. Some days you might want to make lists, other days you might want to write more.
- Don’t judge yourself. There’s no right or wrong way to journal.
Journaling is a great tool for any business owner. It can help you deal with stress, make better choices, and remember why you started your business in the first place.
So grab a notebook and give it a shot. Your business (and your stress levels) will thank you!
Remember, running a business can be tough. It’s okay to feel stressed or anxious sometimes. But you don’t have to let those feelings take over. Journaling can be your secret weapon to help you reduce stress and stay focused on what really matters.
Who knows? You might even start to enjoy it. Many business owners find that journaling becomes a part of their day they look forward to. It’s a chance to pause, reflect, and reset.
