Ep. 58 – Disconnect to Reconnect: The Power of Stepping Away From Your Business

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the constant demands of running a business?

Have you ever taken time away from your business only to realize just how tired you really are? You’ve probably been too busy or too engrossed in your work to realize it.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your business—and yourself—is to step away.

The Selah Entrepreneur Podcast - Episode 58 - Disconnect to Reconnect: The Power of Stepping Away From Your Business

Today let’s look at why regularly disconnecting from your business is vital and how it can help you reconnect more meaningfully.

The Beauty of Disconnecting

This past summer, I was fortunate enough to revisit a private camp that I enjoyed visiting. It’s hidden away that I discovered through the camping service, This private campground, of only 3 sites offers the kind of tranquility only nature can provide. There’s no cell phone signal, and that my friends, is wonderful!

Sometimes You Need to Disconnect, Completely.

When you’re constantly available—whether it’s to clients, family, or your to-do list—it can feel impossible to ever truly decompress. This camp, disconnected from the outside world, gave me the opportunity to embrace the silence and stillness, and it was exactly what I needed.

This is my 2nd summer at this same spot and each time I’ve found myself rediscovering the importance of stepping back, of letting go of the business, the emails, and even the social media feeds that fill our days.

Here Are 3 Practical Reasons to Disconnect to Reconnect to Your Business

Reason #1: Give Yourself a Brain Break

Our brains are constantly on the go, juggling a million tasks. When you disconnect, you give yourself the chance to stop doing and start being. This break is essential for decompressing your mind and body. My niece, who is in her early 20s, came with me on this trip. She too commented that she also felt the need to unplug. She shared how hard it was to slow down in her daily life, and I couldn’t agree more.

Reason #2: Step Away from Digital Noise

Disconnecting from your email and social media is another critical step.

The bombardment of information, updates, and comparisons can be overwhelming. It’s essential to remember that everyone’s journey is their own. Trying to keep up can lead to stress and burnout. For me, removing the pressures of social media and constant email checking was a game-changer.

Reason #3: Rediscover the Importance of Being Over Doing

At home, there is always something to be done, a never-ending list of chores and tasks. By stepping away, it’s easier to step away from these distractions and permit yourself to just be.

Whether it’s a daily walk or a weekend getaway offline, these moments allow you to breathe and remember what’s genuinely important.

Disconnecting Is Part of the Business Clarity Journey

Taking time to disconnect allows you to return with a fresh perspective. I’m now more focused on simplifying my business and making it more sustainable. It was the reminder I needed to focus on what’s truly important and enjoyable rather than getting caught up in making my business more complicated than it needs to be.

It was a reminder that I need to walk my talk.
