Feeling the pressure of 2024? Are you also feeling exhausted and on some days ready to throw in the towel on your business?

The Selah Entrepreneur Podcast - Episode 53

The Exhaustion of Women Entrepreneurs

Many of us women entrepreneurs are simply worn out. We’re juggling our businesses, personal health issues, caring for aging parents, and more. There are seasons of life and business feels like a lot, like a lot a lot doesn’t it?

It’s in these moments, these seasons, where we wonder if we can keep up? Doubt creeps in as we try to keep up with all the balls we are juggling, and trying not to drop.

Oh how I do understand it. Been there and too easily return there. Making the decision to make radical changes or quit are not decisions to make when we are exhausted.

When it gets too much, it’s then we need to look at our rest, how much we are resting, the type of rest we need, and are we scheduling it and intentionally pursuing it.

We need to learn, or relearn, how to rest.

Why Rest Matters for Success

Despite what we often think, resting is not lazy or unproductive. In fact, deep work requires deep rest. When we’re constantly rushing and reacting, we get drained. We can’t make wise decisions. We may even consider quitting altogether.

But with strategic rest breaks, we can refuel and refocus. We become proactive instead of reactive. We make better choices from a clear mind. Our businesses and our personal lives thrive.

 Relearning the Art of Rest

So how do we relearn this crucial skill? Start small. Make a list of 5-10 restful activities you can do in 15 minutes or less. Going for a short walk, sipping tea, coloring – anything to engage your senses differently.

Next, schedule those mini-breaks! Actually block off the time in your calendar. If you wait for a chance to rest, it won’t happen. Treat these like important appointments you can’t miss.

As you build that “rest muscle,” explore what type of rest you truly need. Mental? Physical? Emotional? Spiritual?

Explore these two quizzes to help you figure out what type you need in this season:

Start with these small short rest breaks and then grow into a habit of resting more often and for longer periods of time. Build that rest muscle!

Making Rest a Priority

The key is making rest a priority, not an afterthought. It takes commitment, boundaries, and letting go of perfectionism and people-pleasing tendencies.

You’re worth resting for. Your business is worth it. Your ability to compassionately care for others depends on it. When you’re rested, you can serve from a place of patience, compassion, and determination. .

So don’t discard your entrepreneurial dream, my friend. Simply pause, breathe, and relearn the art of resting.

Schedule that first rest break right now. Your rested self will thank you.

What about you? Your turn:

  • What would you put on your list of “restivities” restful activities you can do in 15 minutes or less?
  • Are you in a season of feeling extra tired?
