Ep. 45 – Life Feeling Extra Hard? Give Yourself Some Business Grace

Be Gentle and Give Yourself Grace” is great advice, but not always easy to do.

Today, I wanted to share something that has been on my heart. As women entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves navigating a unique set of challenges, especially when faced with tough seasons in life.

We can’t escape them. It’s not an “if” the hard times come, it’s “when” they do. It happens in my life and in the lives of the women I coach with. So what are we supposed to do when the hard parts of life impact our businesses?

The Selah Entrepreneur Podcast - Episode 45 - Life Feeling Extra Hard? Give Yourself Some Business Grace

Join me as I dive into the importance of giving ourselves grace and being gentle with ourselves during the hard seasons.

Here are 5 tips to give yourself some business grace…

Tip #1: Sometimes We Need to Admit We’re In A Different Season of Life

In this journey of entrepreneurship, we encounter unexpected hurdles, such as health issues or caring for aging parents. These challenges demand a level of adaptability and flexibility that may seem overwhelming at times.

I recently faced a particularly tough series of days while juggling my business responsibilities and caring for my Mom was having a rough time. It was a reminder of the need to pause, reflect, and prioritize self-care.

The situation I ran into this time prompted me to not only consider what was happening right now but consider what will happen in the future. I’ve been trying to embrace the fact that we are in a different season and type of caregiving. Admitting that and not fighting it is an important step.

Tip #2: The Importance of Granting Yourself Grace (and that you ARE worth resting for)

As women, we often struggle with balancing the demands of our businesses and personal lives. When faced with tough moments, the instinct to push through doing All.The.Things. can overshadow our need for rest and self-compassion.

As I was sharing with a dear friend what was going on with my Mom, she immediately reminded me to “be gentle with yourself as possible” and to give myself some grace.

And she was right! I needed to admit this was hard, take a look at what my priorities were in that moment, and prioritize some self-care. It took me some time to realize it.

Tip #3: Re-Learning to Balance Business and Caregiving Responsibilities

Navigating the complexities of caregiving, whether for aging parents or loved ones, or managing our own personal health issues, sometimes requires us to re-learn the importance of balancing self-care, caregiving, and running a business.

It’s essential to acknowledge the evolving nature of these responsibilities and make room for self-compassion and gentleness in the midst of all the craziness. By taking the time to evaluate our priorities and practice self-care, we can better serve both our families and our businesses.

Tip #4: Find or Build a Supportive Community

Entrepreneurship can be a solitary journey, and that makes it so important that we surround ourselves with a supportive community that understands the crazy entrepreneurial journey we are on.

Maybe it is time to join a community like the Selah Society Mastermind or forming your own support network. Being in the company of women who encourage self-compassion and grace can make a significant difference in how we navigate tough seasons.

Tip #5: Tell Superwoman She Needs to Leave the Building

At the core of it all, we must embrace our imperfections and acknowledge that we are not superheroes. Prioritizing self-care, setting boundaries, and learning to say no are essential components of maintaining balance in both our personal and professional lives. When we can recognize our limitations and give ourselves grace, we can approach challenges with renewed strength and resilience.

As we journey through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship and caregiving, it’s crucial to remember to be gentle with ourselves and grant ourselves business grace in the tough seasons.

When you can embrace self-compassion, connect with a supportive community, and prioritize self-care, you can navigate through your own tough seasons knowing you are not alone and that you can do this!

Your Turn: How do you need to support yourself during a tough season?

What resources and tools do you need to put in place now so that you are ready when (not if) the tough season comes?

Remember, when life gets tough, be kind to yourself, and allow grace to guide you through the journey.
