Ep. 37 – 2 Simple Questions to Ask When You Feel Stuck in Your Business

Feeling Stuck in Your Business? Here Are 2 Simple Questions That Will Help

Have you ever experienced this in your business?

You feel stuck in your business and you’re not sure which way to go. Or you sit down to work through your task list and you say, “Ugh. I don’t want to do any of this. I don’t know where to start. None of this makes sense.”

There are two simple questions I think we all need to ask ourselves when we hit these moments. These are the questions I’ve needed to ask myself a lot recently, and have found them to help me move from stuck to ooooooh that’s what’s going on.

The Selah Entrepreneur Podcast - Episode 37 - 2 Simple Questions to Ask When You Feel Stuck In Your Business

Question #1: How Tired Am I?

I’ve been watching a trend of business owners questioning how busy they are. Most recently, in the YouTube community. There are a lot of channel hosts who announce that they are:

  • Stepping back and doing less
  • Stepping back and quitting
  • Stepping back and pivoting
  • Sharing tips about how they are doing too much and their audience is too

This is something to pay attention to, not ignore. It should even prompt us and ask ourselves, “How tired am I?”.

As knowledge workers providing online services, we use our brains a lot! Email, social media, networking, Voxer, and Zoom just to name a few ways we spend our days. This is a lot of brainpower work, no matter what kind of support services you’re offering.

If you’re out there helping and serving people online, it takes a lot of mental energy to do that work.

We don’t give ourselves enough credit that we are working hard and that we maybe are doing too much or we’re not giving ourselves enough breaks in between all of this work.

So this is question #1: How tired am I?

How tired are you? And is this one reason that you’re feeling stuck in your business?

Question #2: What can I take action on right now?

And guess what? Rest may be that action you need to take next, because rest IS an action step in your day. At least it should be.

There are four phases I think that we have in business, and they are pause, reflect, create, and grow. We cycle through these four phases a lot in our business.

The feeling of being stuck and overwhelmed often arises when we get trapped in the cycle of creating and expanding without pausing and reflecting.

When you take the time to pause and reflect, you’re giving yourself mental rest. You’re giving yourself a new perspective on your business.

One suggestion I have for you is to create a list of at least 5 to 10 things that you can do in 15 to 20 minutes to pause, rest, and recharge. Then pick one or two where you can add them to your schedule as intentional breaks during the day.

The other is to look at your tasks on your list, your client work projects, or your personal projects and pick the two simplest tasks and get to work.

Nothing complicated, just one or two things to help you take action. Because clarity, and getting unstuck, comes from taking action, not just thinking about it.

Tackle those two and pick another, and another. Soon you will find you have some momentum back and you will have clarity and insight you didn’t have before.

So this is question #2: What can I take action on right now?
