Can caregiving, entrepreneurship and self-care exist together?
In today’s episode, we’re diving into a topic that is close to my heart: caregiving, entrepreneurship, and the importance of self-care for women over 50.
As a caregiver myself, I understand the challenges and demands that come with this role.
An increase in caregiving responsibilities was one of the reasons I decided to pursue self-employment. I wanted the freedom to care for my family members without sacrificing my time and energy. It’s a delicate balancing act, but one that is necessary for many women in similar situations.
Caregiving, much like entrepreneurship, has seasons and cycles of intensity. There are moments of routine, but also times of high demand and emotional strain.
The mental aspect of both these roles, as well as maintaining a life outside of them, should not be ignored. Studies have shown that women who serve as caregivers experience higher levels of depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions compared to those who do not have caregiving responsibilities.
Plus, the stresses and emotions associated with caregiving can have an impact on our physical health as well. The components of stress, guilt, and grief can contribute to various illnesses.
While being self-employed can provide more flexibility, it doesn’t automatically make caregiving easier. In fact, recent changes in my own life and business due to my mother’s health have reminded me once again, the importance of establishing healthy routines of rest and self-care to my schedule.
In today’s episode, we will focus on the specific needs of women over 50 who run businesses from home, have aging parents or family members to care for. I want to explore how we can navigate these two worlds and incorporate self-care and intentional rest into our routines.
Join me on this episode as we discuss the challenges, the importance of self-care, and strategies for finding balance between caregiving and entrepreneurship.
